Tanzanian coffees are very similar to coffees grown in their neighboring African county of Kenya. They are grown in the rich volcanic soil found on the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro and in the shade of tall lush banana trees. Sharing space with these trees might account for the wonderful banana flavors in the end result of our roasts. The waste from the banana trees falls to the ground, composts, and in turn its nutrients are absorbed by the coffee plants then beans.
If you are wondering about the Peaberry classification of this bean, it refers to the shape, rather than a quality mark. Peaberry beans are round rather than flat. Only one bean develops in the coffee cherry rather than the normal two flat beans.
